Mexico Trip

Well we safely made it to the Yucatan peninsula and back. We had a great time. We missed Hazel terribly but enjoyed ourselves anyway. Here are just a few pictures:

Tony relaxing on the beach! Azlyn on the beach. If you will notice, she only has one shoe on. She hurt her foot while we were at the ecological park on Saturday. We got to see the first aid station. It was lacerated pretty bad. She goes to the Dr. today. Hopefully just some antibiotics will keep the swelling down.

The ladies in the pool. This is my cousin Allyson in the middle and Tony's cousin Melanie on the left. It was all a family affair. They are drinking "Dirty Bananas" in the picture. My drink of choice was the "Miami Vice". Which is Strawberry Daquiri and Pina Colada mixed.

Here is the family at dinner one night. Aren't we just so cute. Can't help but think that someone is missing. I will have to post some pics of Hazel so she isn't left out.

One Week and a Million Things

Well, our Mexico vacation is officially one week from today. Aaarrriba!!!! It's funny how when your vacation gets closer, your mind seems to drift further and further away from what you really need to be thinking about.

We have really been tested this week before our trip. Hazel has been sick since last Friday. She ran fever and had some vomiting until Monday. She is such a sad little sick kid. She just wanted to be held the whole time. Which is way opposite of norm for her. The good thing I can say is every time she got sick, she missed the floor and the bed. The bad thing, she never missed my shirt. We finally took her to the dr. on Tuesday and she's currently taking antibiotics for a double ear infection and strep throat. Still getting over it. She acts more like herself every day.

Azlyn has started Summer Rec this week. She really enjoys it. Monday was the first day. She had been gone all last weekend for Maddie's birthday party out of town. She came back seriously sunburned and seriously exhausted. Letting her go to Summer Rec on Monday was probably not the greatest of ideas. Eventhough she did rest during the afternoon, she was a big ball of tired at her softball game Monday night. Apparently she wasn't the only one who had spent too much time in the sun because the whole team seemed to be dragging.

Wednesday, which was Hazel's first day at day care this week, I picked up Azlyn from summer rec at noon and noticed that one of her eyes was very red. Come to find out, my niece had pink eye last week and they spent the whole weekend together at the birthday party. So whether the infection came from her or from some anonymous person at Summer Rec, Azlyn has pink eye. Thankfully my sister-in-law had left over drops so I got those last night and have started Azlyn on them. This saves us a second trip to a dr. and pharmacy this week. But wait my story isn't finished. As I sat in the middle of this post, my sister-in-law calls and says that her son (my nephew) now has the pink eye. She has therefore agreed to split the medicine with me so that we can both use it.

Hopefully our family will all be well when we leave for vacation. I have been drinking my orange juice, trying to build my immune system. There are lots of last minute things that have to be done before we go. Get a person to feed the dogs and water the plants, make sure I have plenty of provisions for my mom while she keeps Hazel (diapers, wipes, etc.) Make sure all the bills are paid. Tony's pay day, which is usually the day I pay bills, is the Friday we are gone so I have to make sure all of that is taken care of before hand.

Anyway, I am looking forward to our vacation. Tony called today and said that the closer the day gets, the worse he feels for leaving Hazel. But I assured him that she would be fine and we are going to be able to do so much more without her. Not that we don't love her and enjoy being with her, but sometimes a one year old can hold you back from jet skiing on the ocean.

Hope this blog finds you all well. The whole two people that read it. I appreciate you Wendy and Jennifer. It just helps me release to write down my life, and it's also like a journal that I can save and look back on. My goal for this blog is to also include more pictures. I need to take the time at home to send my pictures to my work email since I write all my blogs during my free time at work.

I will leave you with a saying I found that I really liked:

"Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things."

Have a wonderful day!

Going Great!

Well, our family made it through the last week of school. The family coming over for the cookout went great. Everyone bragged about what a good cook my husband was. I do have to admit that I got lucky. He cooked the entire dinner on the grill. Except for the salad. We have gotten very gutsy with our cooking. We like trying new things. For instance we had tilapia cooked on the grill Tuesday and it was very good. Azlyn wasn't a fan, but I wasn't surprised. She ate the rice and beans that went with it.

We took Azlyn to the eye dr. in Ft. Worth yesterday. We got some more good news. Her vision is continuing to improve. She has reached the age that any improvement is good. But she only lacks one more line on the chart to be able to pass the driving test. She was very excited, as was I. We will continue droping for at least another 4 months.

We officially have 2 weeks until vacation. I am so excited about going to Mexico. I have never been so it will all be brand new. Last night Azlyn wanted to get online to see if they would have flippers to fit her in order to snorkel. I told her that they didn't post flipper sizes online. She was a little bummed but got excited when I showed her on the world map where it was exactly we were going. She has not really shown any anxiety about the flying. I am beginning to feel it a little. With that plane headed toward France going down in the middle of the ocean and no one could find it for days. That's crazy! The last time I flew I was around 6 years old and it was from Dallas to Amarillo. We barely got to altitude before we started descending. A quick 30 minute flight. Anyways, I look forward to geing some relaxation. Maybe reading an actual book and not just magazine articles. But poor Hazel. I know we are doing this because we have always wanted, and Azlyn is going with us but I am going to miss Hazel something fierce. I get teary eyed just thinking about leaving her. But Tony and I need this vacation and by gosh we deserve it. Viva La Mexico!

Last Week of School

OK, so if I had to guess, the last week of school has to be the busiest week of the year. Luckily, Monday was Memorial Day so we did get to rest some. Azlyn had to go to school but they had bounce houses that day so she was pretty excited. After she got out we went to watch Star Trek in Decatur with some free tickets given to us by a friend. It was entertaining for 2 hours but I wasn't all that impressed. I grew up watching Star Trek the Next Generation with my mom and dad and it wasn't really anything like that.

Tuesday morning I had to drop off Tony's truck at the shop to fix the dent from the lady backing into it while it was sitting in the parking lot at work. The rest of the morning was rocking along nicely when my day care provider called around 11:45 to let me know that Hazel had devolped some sort of rash that seemed to be spreading fast. So I rushed her to the doctor (back to Decatur). She had some kind of allergic reaction to a bug bite and she is doing much better now. Tuesday night we grouted our table for our deck. I am so proud of the way it turned out. I will have to post pictures soon. Tony and I are actually thinking about making some and trying to sell them. I don't know, we'll see. I am so proud that Tony has really found something (besides golf) that he enjoys doing and in my opinion is really good at.

Now for Wednesday, Azlyn's music program was at 8:30. She did really well even if all she did was "play a stupid tamborine". (Her words, not mine.) Work was busy and I spent every free minute trying to call parents to help with Alzyn's last day of school party. I am the room mother so this falls on me. I know it was probably short notice, but my moms are usually pretty good to help where needed. Last night we kind of started cleaning up the deck because Friday the whole family is coming over for dinner. (Why did I schedule that for this week?) Tony and I spray painted some chairs mom and dad gave us. Hazel tried to help but just ended up covered in black paint.

Today is Thursday and Azlyn didn't have any school stuff today but I am going to the grocery store to get items for our cookout tomorrow evening as well as the stuff for Azlyn's school party tomorrow morning. We have a game tonight at 7:15 so I have a feeling that this will be our night to eat out this week. I've been trying so hard to cook as much as possible. As hectic as our lives are, we always make time for family dinner around the table. It's something my parents always did and I think is good for family communication.

Tomorrow is Friday. Melody is keeping Hazel because her day care is closed. School party starts at 11:15. Mom, dad, granny, papa, Graham, Summer and kids will be at the house at 6:00 for dinner. Looking forward to it. Luckily I have a wonderful best friend in Shana who is currently at my house doing some much needed cleaning. We decided this would be a good trade off for picking up Siah for school everyday this year.

Saturday, the best man from our wedding is having an all day 30th birthday party at the lake. Sounds like sunburn. But the kids will enjoy it.

Sunday, we just got free tickets to the Colonial golf tournament in Fort Worth. Tony will definately go but I am questionable. Sounds like a Rusty and Tony adventure to me. Maybe I will stay at home and catch up on some much needed lazy time.

Monday Azlyn starts basketball camp. And summer. We don't really have a plan as far as what she is going to do everyday. I just plan on relying on friends and family. I am lucky to have those in my life who love my child and are willing to keep her for me. She doesn't mind, as long as she has someone to play with.

Somewhere in the middle of it all, I work 40 hours a week. But you know I was talking to a coworker this morning who said you know what, you wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you weren't busy. That's probably true.

Memorial Day

I received some obligatory forwarded email this morning about the real meaning of Memorial Day and how we should remember what the fallen soldiers of the past had done for us today. It kind of got me to thinking about how far we have strayed from the real meaning of several holidays. Take this one for example. I kind of thought about going to the lake and hanging out with friends and maybe having a cookout on the newly finished deck. When they originally instated Memorial Day, was this what our forefathers had in mind? Now my mother on the other hand is going to place new flowers on her mom's headstone which is kind of out of town. She only lost her mom like 9 months ago and she feels this is something she needs to do. Eventhough my grandmother wasn't a veteran, my mom uses this holiday to honor her memory. Which is what should be done, I think. That's what they had in mind.

So, while I sit on my deck this weekend and enjoy the company of my friends and family and my sweet golden corn on the cob, I will think about my MaMa and my PaPa and what their lives meant to me. And how my life wouldn't be possible if it hadn't been for theirs. Their memories will always be a part of me. To me, that's what memorial day is all about.

Hello Blog World

Well, I am new to this whole blogging thing. I have been following a couple of blogs from friends and acquatinces (sp?). I thought, I can do that. Not that what I have to say is interesting or profound but it is my life.

Speaking of my life, here is a little about it. I am married to Tony. We were married October 14, 2000. We were young, in love, and starting a family. Honestly, I had my doubts from the beginning but now couldn't imagine being with anyone else in the world. The first couple of years were tough. But I think that is the fact with any marriage. And now Tony is more than my husband, I can honestly say he is my best friend. We share everything with each other: our thoughts, our hopes, our fears, our entire lives. Next year is our tenth anniversary. I hope to celebrate our fiftieth together. But hopefully it won't fly by as fast as these ten have. That's enough gooshy stuff. On to the kids...

Azlyn Janae was born in February of 2001. She was our angel from the moment she was born. She has always been the sweetest little girl. As a toddler and heck even today, she has been extremely shy. She loves with all her heart and has compassion for everyone she meets. But lately I have started to notice her other side. I think it may have something to do with age (8 is the new 12) and the fact that she was the center of everything until her sister came along about a year ago. She stays very active with extracurricular activities (cheerleading, basketball and softball). We try to push that so she can grow out of her shyness. She does have a couple of good friends that we see a lot of. Maddie and Azlyn have been friends since the day they were born and have continued to be even as they have grown.

Hazel Lynn arrived in October of 2007. If any two kids could be more opposite, it's my two. Where Azlyn is shy and reserved, Hazel is outgoing and mischevious. In fact, Tony told me the other day that he thought God brought us Hazel to teach him patience. Hazel is going at 90 miles per hour from the time she wakes up until the time she goes to bed. I have always thought that those parents who put their kids on those leash things were cruel, but with Hazel, I am thinking it's not such a bad idea. I can't wait to see what is in store for her life. She brings so much joy to ours.
Well that's my life in general. Hopefully you won't find my posts too boring!
